Riverfront Museum

The new Riverfront Museum is opening October 20, 2012!  This is a very exciting time for Peoria!

All who visit the museum will:

  • experience three centuries of Peoria history—from its Native American and French roots, through its days as a wide-open boomtown, to its period as the bellwether of U.S. taste … and beyond.
  • hear the fascinating story of the Illinois River and its broad floodplain—and a complex ecosystem of which humans have long been a part.
  • participate in a high-energy experience that really puts the "active" into "interactive"—testing skills like those required of participants in IHSA's 39 sports and activities.
  • explore two galleries filled with unique hands-on activities, where kids of all ages grow and learn by doing.
  • enjoy the 30,000-square-foot gallery bringing the best traveling exhibitions to Peoria—from Fine Arts and the Sciences to History and Achievement.
  • visit the new gallery showcasing the museum's expansive collection of fine art and folk art and much more.
  • view stars and galaxies on a cutting-edge planetarium projection system that is the first of its kind in the Western Hemisphere.
  • watch movies in a theater that is so big that viewers become immersed in the experience
  • fuse art, history, science and nature into one dynamic learning environment.  (as taken from http://www.peoriariverfrontmuseum.org)
